On Wednesday, December 1, a public Menorah lighting ceremony took place in Daley Plaza, Chicago’s premier civic center and one of the cities architectural highlights. The Menorah is 30 feet high and 18 feet wide, and designed as an exact replica of the Menorah on Capitol Hill. Chabad of Downtown Chicago, directed by Rabbi Meir Chai Benhiyoun, puts up the Menorah every year. The Menorah is a uniquely Jewish symbol amidst the annual German market and other symbols located at the Daley Center. The ceremony was covered by CBS 2 and the Chicago Sun Times.
